Not the first use of humans in projection mapping, but opens up a few doors and gets the imagination going.

Instagram Jones [Who to Follow]

This one is for those attempting to navigate the wild west that is ‘online dating’, or as Cunning alum Graham Jones explains it, “online dating is offline dating arranged through a third party, social media.” And as such, Graham has taken to Tumblr to share this media.

Using the partial guise of Instagram Jones, Graham chronicles his dating adventures in and outside of OkCupid. More than just an entertaining read, you may find some good pointers in there too. I’ll vouch for that.

Love this, especially as someone who remembers previous residences (and vacations) by the morning wakeup experience. I’m not sure how thrilled I would be typing in city names at 7:30am, but the intention is nice. Plus a clever integration of flight booking. Do I dare say this is…’gamifying’ the alarm clock experience?

And I want every alarm clock to set by a dial like this one. Any recommendations?

This is a really interesting program, essentially Homes for Habitat  for Agencies! It’s called T.I.E, The International Exchange  and places creative/communication/advertising employees in foreign lands to help them, and then they come back to their 9 to 5, refreshed and rewarded. It sounds very nice. that’s all.

Amazon - Offline and On Its Own

The book stores are fighting. Barnes & Noble, the American Booksellers Association, IndieCommerce, and Canadian bookseller Indigo have announced a boycott on all Amazon published titles. Amazon has taken steps to engage in exclusive deals with publishers and authors, prohibiting other booksellers from selling titles in their stores. I’d cry foul, too.

Brick and Mortar

Amazon and brick & mortar?! This time with Google and Microsoft. The brick and mortar is taking the online offline again. Google opened its first physical location in Australia with an Android themed retail store. Microsoft is planning to open four new stores in the coming months, with a goal of 75 within two years. And finally Amazon, with its growing list of retail friends, is planning a boutique location in Seattle. The store will carry e-readers and accessories, as well as Amazon Exclusive (its publishing platform) titles.

APIs

Did you know there are over 750 public government datasets available for use? 2011 was the year of the API, as the number of publicly available government APIs quintupled. Gilt Groupe recently released its first public API as well, adding to the most popular API category of ‘internet and social’. Similar to the race to develop company websites in the 90s, and the more recent splattering of unfounded brand social channel creation, the API is becoming the new competitive asset. If your company doesn’t have an API, you’re falling behind.

Hungary is burning money, and it’s OK

The central bank of Hungary is turning old monetary notes into briquettes that are sent to humanitarian organizations for heating. It takes about five million forints ($22K) to make a single one-kilogram briquette. The bank has burned around 200 billion forints ($913 million) thus far.

Blackberry Down and Out

You know you’re in trouble when Halliburton jumps ship. The energy services company recently switched to every creative’s favorite mobile tool. RIM is still holding out for BlackBerry 10, which they hope will help the company compete with Apple and Google.

The Guardian are back with their first major brand positioning in 25 years with a new spot for BBH. It showcases their “open journalism” platform with the story of the three little pigs in a compelling dramatic piece showing all sides of the familiar story. The contemporary twist citing the recent London riots is an appropriate and timely reference.

OK GO’s latest video definitely takes some inspiration from La Blogotheque, but as Jeff Hamada points out on BOOOOOOOM!, the concept behind this seems to be stronger than the execution. I’m also a little skeptical of how much of the live performance contributed to the soundtrack of this.

Regardless, you have to hand it to OK GO for their consistently creative music videos.
